Through out the 1960's people were use to the every day way of life. What they didn't know is that the next 40 years would change everything that they knew. To ways of life to new technology. Scientific discovery's were going on and wars were being fought. The decade of the 1960's was the year of rebellion. People were doing what they wanted and things were change and with change comes problems and not everyone was on board. The headlines below were big and made around the world not just here in the United States. The 60's were change and the years for people to show what they wanted.
J.F.K Assassination
-November 22, 1963
J.F.K came to Dallas, TX for his political campaign. What he didn't know is that it would be his last ride. In Dealey Plaza on the this day was crisis. Our president was assassinated not for who he was but for who his killer was. Lee Harvey Oswald was the lone assassin so forth to the conspiracy of more than one shooter. He was fed up with his life so he thought of doing the most unthinkable thing. Killing the president of the United States of America.
I Have Dream Speech
-August 28, 1963
In the afternoon on a Wednesday the world would come together and listen. They would come for an unforgettable speech given by M.L.K. He was an activist against segregation and trying to make a change in this world. This speech would go down forever as one of the greatest speeches in our history. It changed peoples views on blacks and it started the change of America. The fight towards segregation and the fight for equal rights.
M.L.K Dies
-April 4, 1968
On a day that seemed so normal soon became dark into the evening. Nobody knew of what was M.L.K's faith but one man named James Ray. He had shot and killed M.L.K at the Lorraine Motel. At 7:05 p.m. the world had gotten news that he was dead and the world would never forgot the fighting and toughness M.L.K went through towards the fight of segregation and civil rights.
Segregation

Segregation was a big problem through out the 1960's. People did not see eye to eye and there was a lot of hatred towards black people. Many civil right groups were created and many things were dark. No matter where you went you would see signs sepperating blacks and whites. To drinking water to sitting in the back of the bus.

Cold War
-1947-1991
The Cold War had already been going on and carried into the 1960's. The Cold War was based on nuclear power and during the 60's included the space race. Between the dominate United States and the Soviet Union. Other countries were also involved like Cuba and alley countries. It was a race to be the dominate country and become the first country with a nuclear weapon. It pushed every country to become better in the end making everyone better. The Cold War also included the Berlin Blockade, Vietnam War, Space Race, Korean War, Cuban Missile Crisis, and the rise o USSR.
Vietnam War

The Vietnam War was a long war that last from 1955 to 1975. The war was between North Vietnam against South Vietnam who was back up by the United States. One of the biggest wars happened on January 21, 1968, the battle of The Siege of Khe Sanh. It was a battle which the United States over took the front of North Vietnam. At least 100,000 tons of bombs were dropped on the battlefront. Equal to 5 atomic bombs that the U.S. dropped on Hiroshima.
First Televised Presidential Election
September 26, 1960
On this day 70 million people In the United States watch John Kennedy and Robert Nixon square off in the 1960 presidential debate. This debate showed the people how their candidate can be and listen to what they have to say on major topics. Nixon had injured his knee 2 weeks prior and refused tow ear make up while Kennedy did the opposite. This made J.F.K look fit and ready while Nixon looked not unprepared and lost. America had seen their political leaders on stage and it was a plus for Kennedy and a minus for Nixon. This helped Kennedy win the election.
Cuban Missile Crisis
-October 16-28, 1962
A war between The United States vs. The Soviet Union and Cuba. It was 13 day crisis of scare for all countries as The Soviet Union's threat was a mutual assured descruction of a nuclear bomb. They had said they had bombs in Cuba and The United States quickly reacted sending ships over to Cuba and on October 27 the U.S. opened warning shots on Cuba but was bombed down by the Soviets. An agreement was tried but only threats were sent. Although a nuclear war did not happen the United States was on the edge of their seats.
R.F.K Assassination
-June 6, 1968
An American polition, a Democratic Senator, and a brother to the great John F. Kennedy. What he didn't know its that he would soon end up just like his brother, assassinated. On evening of June 6, 1968 R.F.K would walk through the kitchen of a hotel in Los Angles. As he walked through he would be shot and later died 22 hours at Good Samaritan Hospital. His killer, a 24 year old Palestinian/Jordanian immigrant man named Sirhan Sirhan.
Apollo 11 Launch and Landing
-July 16-20, 1969
A morning that would soon change the world and that would soon put the United States in the driver seat of the Space Race. The Apollo 11 crew woke up knowing that they would take a ride of their lives. The men launched off on July 16 and land 4 days later on the moon. It was not first man in space but the first man on the moon. The United States had made the impossible possible. Neil Armstrong had set foot and said the famous words "Thats one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." President Kennedy had kept his promise to put a man on the moon.
Civil Rights Act
-July 2, 1964
Applied on July 2, 1964 that the separation and segregation of people by color and religion was no more legal. Although this act was passed people of America still dislike each other because of the color of their skin and religion. Many hate crimes came and many people did not like each other causing riots and marches from many through out the 60's and forward into our time. It was a fight we fought within ourselves and fight for the right to live, a civil right.
Malcolm X Assassination
-February 21, 1965
Malcolm X was an African American nationalist and religious leader, that was assassinated by a rival Black Muslim group while addressing his organization of Afro-American Unity at the Audubon Ballroom in Washington Heights. On February 21, 1965, one week after his home was firebombed, Malcolm X was shot to death by Nation of Islam members while speaking at a rally of his organization in New York City.
